We're Gaining On You

In the coming weeks, our class will be taking a field trip to the Laguna Beach tide pools. There, we will learn about coastal communities and specifically focus in on tide pools. We will look at what tide pools are and how they are related to the two high and two low tides we experience each day, the creatures and plants that reside in them, and the different environments for each of them. We'll even attempt to learn why different plants and animals live on different surfaces. Our class will take a look at the surrounding living environments on our walk down to the shore and see if we can figure out the differences between all of the living environments.

The tide pools are an integral part of the California ecosystem and should be treasured and protected just as any other community. Tide pools are sensitive and we will be able to see direct evidence of that on our visit. Students in our class will benefit from the information gathered on this field trip and hopefully, the experience will last a lifetime. Perhaps it will even spark some future marine biologists and environmentalists!

Next time, we'll discuss how we can best prepare the students for a successful field trip.
